Police urge awareness if youths lurking around homes

Three youths face trespassing charges

AMHERSTBURG – The Amherstburg Police Service is asking people to be aware and be vigilant of suspicious activity at their home or a neighbours home or vehicle.

Police charged three local youths – two 16-year-olds and one 15-year-old – on September 1 with the criminal charge of trespass by night after they were allegedly going between homes and into backyards in the area of Reynolds Ct.

Early Sunday morning, police say an attempt was made to enter into a garage on Martin Cr. but the homeowner scared the suspect off.

A vehicle owner in the 100 block of South Riverview Drive reported his vehicle was entered and four tubes of sealer taken. It was reported last Friday. Police say the vehicle was unlocked.

Anyone who views suspicious activity near homes or vehicles is asked to call police.

Threats Police received a call from a resident in the 600 block of Richmond St. around noon Sunday and ended up charging a 50-year-old Belle River man with utter death threats to cause death or bodily harm.

Accidents A 43-year-old Harrow woman was charged with failing to stop at a red light after a two-car accident at the intersection of Simcoe St. and Sandwich St. S. last Thursday afternoon around 4:30 p.m.

*Two drivers were charged after a collision at the intersection of Sandwich St. S. and North St. Sept. 1. A 36-year-old woman from LaSalle was charged with passing on the right not in safety while a 68-year-old Amherstburg man was charged with adult change lane not in safety.

*A car versus deer accident was reported along County Road 50 the night of Sept. 2.

Mischief A home in the 100 block of Illinois St. was egged. It was reported at roughly 3 p.m. Sept. 1. The home has been an ongoing target and police ask anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.

*A different home on Illinois Cr. saw a vehicle parked at it egged as well. It too was reported Sept. 1.

Thefts A 23-year-old Amherstburg man was arrested for shoplifting at a store in the 400 block of Sandwich St. S. Sept. 2. Police say the man was subsequently charged and released.

*A local business on Renaud St. was reported broken into last Thursday. Police are still investigating.

*Police attended a business in the 400 block of Sandwich St. S. August 31 for a report of a 13-year-old shoplifter. The girl was released to her parents and entered into the Youth Diversion program.

Assault Police went to a home in the 9500 block of Walker Road August 31 and the resulting investigation saw a 43-year-old Amherstburg woman charged with domestic assault.

Tickets Amherstburg Police issued 23 traffic charges against the Highway Traffic Act for the week of August 31-Sept. 7. Those figures do not include traffic accidents.
