ESSEX — Coming off a tournament championship the previous weekend in St. Thomas, the Amherstburg Midget Majors travelled to Essex Friday night to take on the Ravens.
Sickness and injuries resulted in a short bench and seemed to play a role in the Stars only managing a tie against the Essex squad. The Midgets would dominate the shot clock but ran into a solid goalie from Essex. The Stars fell behind 1-0 after one period but managed to tie the game shortly into the second with a goal by Corey Beaulieu from Zoran Popel and Tyler Pope-Ferguson. The tie would be short lived as Essex turned an Amherstburg turnover into a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.
The Stars and Essex would trade goals in the third period as Zoran Popel scored, with assists to Chad Shepley and Tyler Pope-Ferguson. Essex took the lead again with six minutes remaining but a goal from Justin Dube with four minutes remaining, evened the score at three.
The point would keep the Stars in second place in the Bluewater league and sets up a first place showdown with the Belle River Rink Rats, Friday night in Amherstburg. Game time is 9:40 p.m. at Amherstburg Arena.
