AMHERSTBURG — Get ready for a sea of Santa Claus' running down the streets of Amherstburg later this month.
The first-ever Super Santa Run is slated for Nov. 28, just prior to the start of the annual Santa Claus Parade. The run will be family-oriented with all participants getting a free five-piece Santa suit to wear during the four-kilometer event. The route is along the parade route, which this year is from the corner of Richmond & Dalhousie up to Sandwich St. S. then over to William St. The run will actually start and finish on Pickering Dr. near Total Fitness.
"Runners should join early, because the event is limited to 1000 runners for the first year," cautions Foundation Development Officer Chris Uszynski. "We will be going for the world's record in two years time and hope to attract 13,000 running Santas to Amherstburg."
The cost is $50 per adult and $40 for runners under the age of 13, and includes the Santa suit to keep as a souvenir. The race begins at 5 p.m. sharp. Runners can go to Just Cork It at 421 Sandwich St. S. from 12-8 p.m. the Friday before and 12-3:30 p.m. race day for their race chip and their free Santa suit.
All funds raised will go to the Essex Region Conservation Foundation and the Amherstburg River Lights Festival Program.
"It's an event that will really put a smile on people's faces," said Uszynski. "It's a great community event."
Uszynski is thankful for the community support he is receiving and is grateful to his sponsors. People can register their entire family at www.ourgreenlegacy.ca and click on the "Events" tab.
Uszynski said people can walk the route including those with walkers.
