It is with sheer amazement that I drive around the downtown core of Amherstburg. The level of courtesy and respect for other motorists is practically non-existent.
Case in point: I got a scare when some driver pulled out of that spot near the Rotary Clock. I don't know why that spot even exists as it sits in the middle of a major intersection in town and should only be for large delivery vehicles such as Purolator and UPS. Maybe it should be designated as a
loading zone only. People park there constantly even though there are spots available in the parkette just so, heaven forbid, they walk an extra 40
yards to go to the bank.
If that's not bad enough, there are those nitwits who park along the south side of Richmond St. between the corner of Dalhousie St. and where the
actual on-street parking begins. That's a designated no-parking zone, people. There's a sign there. Yet people just park there anyway as they might collapse from sheer fatigue if they have to walk more than a block to get where they are going. No one seems to care that it narrows the street and causes other motorists to weave around this illegally parked vehicle.
Then there are the others who park on that "hump" across Richmond St. and block that lane as well.
I don't care what people say, there is plenty of parking around here. When the parkette lot is full, park on the street. There are tons of spots. I can
always find a spot in the angle parking abutting Navy Yard Park. Either that, or the parallel parking on the other side of the street. If not, there are lots of other public spots for your vehicle. You may have to get a little exercise and walk, that's all.
I may stay away from the downtown core as it clearly provides me with too much aggravation. At least I can hope that maybe I've raised enough awareness about the lack of courtesy and poor parking habits to the point where more parking tickets will be issued. One more thing: does the use of four-way flashers mean "I can park where I feel like. Mind your own business." I guess to some people, it does.
Thank you.
