Alzheimer support groups

  • If you are caring for a loved one with Alzheimer Disease or related dementia, the Alzheimer Society of Windsor & Essex County has a number of information sessions and support groups to assist you. We are pleased to announce there are three education sessions. Those include a 1 1/2 hour Caregiver Information Event, offering an overview of dementia and coping strategies; the Caregiver Information Series running two hours a week for six consecutive Wednesdays, covering a variety of topics, and the Transitions Workshop, an all-day event where caregivers will learn about when it is time for their loved one to move from the home. Social Work Support sessions include the Caregiving Support Groups available in Windsor, Amherstburg, Leamington, Belle River and Lakeshore. Caregivers will have the opportunity to share their experiences and joys in a nine-week facilitated program. The Daughters’ Group is a drop-in format, running every other week.
    All of these events are free to the public but due to limited seating we require pre-registration for all except the Daughters’ Group. For more info about dates and times and to register, please call 519-974-2220 ext. 231.
