The issue of wind farm and the surrounding residents' reaction to them is starting to ramp up again. An open house held by Gengrowth on Monday night featured peaceful pickting from several residents from around where the South Side Wind Farm is proposed out in front of the open house location at the Amherstburg Community Church on Alma St. A public meeting was scheduled for last night - after this edition of The Amherstburg Echo went to press - on Essex County Council's Proposed Official Plan Amendment dealing with renewable energy systems policies including those for wind, solar and others.
What is becoming very evident is that local residents and their concerns have not gone away. Companies such as Gengrowth have stated they are complying with guidelines and procedures set before them. Picketers stated Monday night they have obtained the services of local lawyer Anthony Leardi and added Leardi was scheduled to speak on their behalf both last night in Essex and at the town council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 20.
Renewable, clean energy is important but the lifestyle of people living near these facilities is also important. How this issue is going to be resolved remains to be seen but one of the only clear conclusions at this state of the game is that it doesn't appear to be going away any time soon.
